The quest for the perfect tire
dressing.
I'm a tire dressing fanatic.
If I have 30 detailing products in my detailing cabinet, 20 of them have to be
tire dressings! My wife feels I'm a bit eccentric but I prefer to think of
myself as being on a quest for the perfect tire dressing.
Now if you're new to our
website, let me explain my philosophy that no product is perfect. Every product
has strengths and weaknesses. As a reviewer, it's my job to point out a products
advantages and shortcomings so you can make an educated decision to try the
product or not.
Up until now, my two favorite
tire dressings have been Eimann Fabrik Black Sapphire Tire Gel and Meguiars Hot
Shine Tire Coating. Both products have their strong points. I like the convenience
of a spray but Meguiar's mist is so fine that any slight breeze sends a mist of
spray over the wheels and body panels. Then I have to spend more time wiping off
overspray. I would also like a bit more product to be placed on the surface. If
I use Meguiar's Hot Shine, I end up spraying each tire twice to achieve the
deep, dark look I like.
Eimann Fabrik Black Sapphire
Tire Gel has just the opposite problem. One coating gives me the dark, rich look
I like but I always feel I'm wasting too much dressing in the applicator.
Invariably I squeeze too much product on the applicator and end up with black,
greasy fingers! I also have to wipe Black Sapphire on the tires, move the
vehicle to expose the "flat spot", (being careful not to get tire
dressing on the steering wheel) then go back and even out the shine. If only I
could apply Black Sapphire with a trigger sprayer....
Welcome Eimann Fabrik Ultra
Black Tire Dressing. This dressing utilizes the same, long-lasting, polymers
as Black Sapphire Tire Gel but in an easy-to-apply, spray formula. Ultra Black
is in the oil-based family for maximum penetration but unlike other dressings,
does not contain ANY mineral spirits. It is VOC compliant in all 50 states.
While you can spray Ultra
Black and walk away, the thicker coating produced by the trigger spray can
result in sling off at highway speeds. I prefer to spray all four tires (I use a
homemade, cardboard circle to protect the wheels from overspray), move the
vehicle a few feet to expose the "flat spot" then wipe the tires with
a DRY Tire Applicator. This removes excess dressing on the tire's sidewalls and
redistributes it over the flat spot. Nice and neat. The applicator never becomes
saturated with product so your fingers stay clean and dry.
The right look.
Ultra Black Tire Dressing
creates a dark, deep and wet look that compliments my cars shine and sets it
apart. This is not the "plastic looking" shine of petroleum-based
dressings nor is it the matte finish of water-based dressings. For me, it's just
the right look.
And it lasts a week or more!
I hand wash my car every
Saturday morning and end with dressing the tires. My tire's keep a nice, black
finish for a full week even through Florida's afternoon showers.

Has my quest for the perfect tire dressing ended? No,
the trade-off for Ultra Black's durability is the slightly oily finish
that stays on the surface. My perfect dressing would have Ultra Black's
rich, wet look and durability but would be completely dry to the touch.
While my quest for the
perfect dressing continues, Ultra Black Tire Dressing remains at the top
of my list. I highly recommend it.
