Gel coat pad kit for
circular polishers.
This kit contains the
proper compounding and finishing pads needed to brighten dull, chalky, gel coat
finishes, restore gloss and apply a sealant using a professional, circular
polisher like the Porter Cable 7428 or DeWalt DW849 (not included in this kit). The
pads in this kit are the result of over 20 years of in-the-field research and development.
They are the same, OEM pads used by major marine
and RV manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe.
This kit is designed for
standard or painted gel
coat finishes. We do not include any compound, polish, wax
or sealant in this kit allowing you to use your favorite products. We do include
a Bow to Stern Application guide. If you follow the instructions in this guide,
you should be able to compound, polish and seal any marine or RV gel coat finish
using your favorite products.
NOTE: Some
marine/RV waxes & sealants can not be applied with a circular polisher.
Check the application instructions on the back of your product. Most pure waxes
and sealants apply best with a Red Finishing Pad. Some combination
polish/sealants like Klasse All-in-One apply best with a White Polishing Pad
while other polish/sealants, like Gel Coat Labs One-step, Gel Coat Micro-polish
& Sealant apply best with a Gel Coat Orange Power Pad. We include a Red,
White and Orange Gel Coat, CCS Technology Foam pad in this kit so you will have
the correct finishing pad regardless of the final wax or sealant used.
The pads in this kit require
your circular polisher be equipped with a 6 inch, Hook-and-Loop Backing
Plate. If your machine did not come with a 6 inch backing plate, order our
#FBP-6C, 6 inch Flexible Backing Plate below. (This backing plate fits all circular
polishers with a 5/8-11 threaded post.)

for
basic gel coat compounding, polishing
and finishing procedures.

Note:
As you polish, wool pads will become
"caked" with residues and the knap will compact down (become flat).
This will cause the polisher to skip or bounce over the surface. As the
wool pad becomes more compacted, it will become increasingly
difficult to control. At some point, you will be forced to stop and change pads.
| Here's what
the pro's do. Place your circular polisher on the floor (or ground) with the pad facing up. Set the speed
control to the lowest speed setting. Hold the machine down with your
foot.
Use
one hand to turn the machine on and your other hand to hold this stainless
steel brush against the pad's surface. It only takes a few seconds for the
wool pad to fluff up so you can continue polishing. |

Pad Care:
Spray dirty foam pads with Bow to Stern All Marine
Cleaner and soak in a bucket of water with a packet of Snappy Clean Pad Cleaner.
Let pads soak for 5 to 15 minutes. Fluff up pad with your fingers then hand
squeeze out excess water. Place pad back on machine, set to highest speed and
spin out excess water. Allow to air dry, preferably in the sun. Do not use
pads still wet from cleaning.
