Gel coat pad kit for
dual-action polishers.
This kit contains the
proper compounding, polishing and finishing pads needed to freshen-up slightly dull gel
coat finishes, restore gloss and apply a sealant using a dual-action machine
polisher like the Porter Cable 7424 (not included in this kit). The pads in this
kit are the result of over 20 years of in-the-field research and development.
They are the same, OEM pads used by major marine
and RV manufacturers in the U.S. and Europe.
NOTE:
Dual-action polishers like the Porter Cable 7424 can freshen-up and maintain
newer gel coats and apply a sealant in a fraction of the time it would take by
hand but can not restore excessively dull, chalky gel coats. Restoring even
moderately dull gel coats is best accomplished with a professional,
circular polisher.
This kit is designed for
standard or painted gel
coat finishes. We do not include any compound, polish, wax
or sealant in this kit allowing you to use your favorite products. We do include
a Bow to Stern Application guide. If you follow the instructions in this guide,
you should be able to compound, polish and seal any marine or RV gel coat finish
using your favorite products.
This kit includes one
Gel Coat Orange Power Pad for polishing and three different pads for
finishing. Most pure waxes
and sealants apply best with a Gold Finishing Pad. Some combination
polish/sealants like Klasse All-in-One apply best with a White Polishing Pad
while other polish/sealants, like Bow to Stern One-step, Gel Coat Micro-polish
& Sealant apply best with a Gel Coat Orange Power Pad. We include a Gold,
White and Orange Gel Coat, CCS Technology Foam pad in this kit so you will have
the correct finishing pad regardless of the final wax or sealant used.
The pads in this kit require
your D-A polisher be equipped with a 6 inch, Hook-and-Loop Backing Plate. This
backing plate does not come with this kit and may or may not have come with your
machine polisher. If your machine did not come with a backing plate, order our #FBP-6DA, 6 inch
Flexible Backing Plate below. (This backing plate fits the Porter Cable 7424
& 7336 D-A polishers.) Removing the standard pad on the Porter Cable 7424
requires a Porter Cable Flat Wrench that comes with all 7424 and 7336 machine
polishers. If you lost your wrench, you can order a replacement below.

Follow the instructions in this guide
for
basic gel coat compounding, polishing
and finishing procedures.

Pad Care: Spray dirty foam pads with Bow to Stern All Marine
Cleaner and soak in a bucket of water with a packet of Snappy Clean Pad Cleaner.
Let pads soak for 5 to 15 minutes. Fluff up pad with your fingers then hand
squeeze out excess water. Allow to air dry, preferably in the sun. Do not use
pads still wet from cleaning.
