Zero
to Shine in less than 60 seconds!
Meguiar's new Hot Shine
Aerosol Tire Spray is a winner! We saw mock-ups of this product in November of
2002 at SEMA, the auto industry's aftermarket trade show and have been anxiously
awaiting it arrival.
Three features peaked my
interest in this product:
- It's the first product I've ever seen with an
adjustable, 3-way, aerosol spray head. The settings of wide, medium and
narrow allow you to adjust the spray pattern to fit the profile of your
tire.
- Meguiar's claimed a high gloss finish with
just one application. We offer other aerosol tire shine products but they
require a second spray to create a uniform gloss.
- A claimed treatment of 50 tires per can! With
other aerosol tire shine products, you're lucky to get 12 to 15 tires per
can.
Now that I've had an
opportunity to actually use this product, I'm pleased to report it's as good as
claimed. In fact it's better!
The adjustable, 3-way spray
head really works. My Audi came with low profile tires and I was
constantly spraying product on the wheels when using other aerosol dressings.
With the spray head set at "narrow", I was able to obtain a uniform
coating with minimum over spray.
Was I able to create a uniform
gloss with one coating? Yes! I didn't feel the need to apply a second coating.
Meguiar's prints "High
Gloss" on the can which had me concerned. I'm not a fan of glossy,
plastic-looking tires. I would not characterize this as a high gloss product. On
my tires, the finish was deep and black, a look that compliments my car. I
didn't find it overly shiny.
Will a can treat 50 tires? I
don't know. I sprayed the tires on three vehicles and the can still felt mostly
full. With the other aerosol product I had been using, after 12 tires the can
was approaching empty. Even if Hot Shine only treated 25 to 30 tires, it would
be a bargain!
| Caveats? Only one and it's my
complaint against all aerosols. The mist is very fine. If I spray the tires
outdoors, even the slightest breeze blows over spray on the side of my car.
Applying Hot Shine in my garage, I didn't have a problem.
Meguiar's claims Hot Shine will keep tires looking black for
"weeks". I've now had Hot Shine on my tires for 7 days and my
tires still look nice and black. I wash my car and dress the tires every
week but I feel the tires would still be acceptably black after 14 days. |
